A terrifying suspected gas explosion ripped through a home near Milton Keynes, sending debris soaring into the air and forcing terrified neighbours from their properties.

Emergency services raced to Cobb Hall Road in Newton Longville at around 9.44am on Sunday after reports of a huge explosion, fire and the collapse of a domestic property.

One man was injured in the blast and rushed to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service.

Shocking doorbell camera footage captured the moment the property appeared to erupt, with a huge fireball and debris blasted high above the surrounding homes.

The force of the explosion left the house devastated, with residents describing a scene of utter destruction.

Sue Watkins, 65, who lives nearby, said: “There was a bungalow on fire, black; front had been blown off; roof was gone.”

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the explosion was suspected to have been caused by gas.

Thames Valley Police officers, firefighters and paramedics descended on the scene as residents living close to the damaged property were evacuated as a precaution.

Gas distributor SGN said its engineers isolated the supply to affected properties and began safety checks across the area.

An SGN spokesman said: “We understand that a resident has been taken to hospital to receive treatment and our thoughts are with them.”

The cause of the suspected gas leak remains under investigation.

The dramatic incident has left residents facing the aftermath of a blast powerful enough to rip apart a home and scatter wreckage across the area.

A Thames Valley Police statement said: “At around 9.44am emergency services were called to Cobb Hall Road, to a report of an explosion, fire and collapse of a property. One person sustained injuries, requiring hospital treatment, where they remain.”
