0800 Homefix expands its Gas Safe engineering team as London demand for emergency home services hits a five-year high

London-based heating, plumbing and drainage company 0800 Homefix has expanded its team of Gas Safe registered engineers following a sustained increase in demand for emergency home services across the capital and the wider South East.

The company, which covers London and surrounding counties including Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and Kent, has recorded a consistent rise in call volumes over the past twelve months, driven by a combination of ageing housing stock, deferred maintenance and a significant uptick in landlord compliance obligations under incoming legislation.

Much of the growth has been concentrated in heating. Requests for boiler repair in London have risen sharply as properties with older or poorly maintained systems reach the point of failure, often during periods of high demand when engineer availability across the city is at its most stretched.

To meet that demand, 0800 Homefix has brought additional Gas Safe registered engineers into its team, reinforcing its capacity to provide same-day attendance across its full-service area. The company operates with no call-out charge and maintains availability seven days a week, 365 days a year.

A market shaped by regulation and rising costs

The timing of the expansion reflects broader pressures in the London property sector. The Renters Rights Bill, currently progressing through Parliament, is expected to place additional obligations on landlords in relation to heating system standards and property habitability. At the same time, the government’s ambition to raise the minimum energy performance certificate rating for private rented homes to a C rating by 2030 has prompted a wave of landlords to review the condition of their heating systems ahead of what is likely to become a mandatory requirement.

For landlords running older stock, the arithmetic has shifted. A boiler that has not been properly serviced in several years may still pass its annual gas safety check while operating well below its rated efficiency, carrying faults that will develop into a full breakdown within months. The cost of an emergency replacement, including parts, labour and the disruption to a tenancy, consistently runs to several times the cost of routine annual maintenance.

Separate pressures in the water sector have added to call volumes. Water leak detection has become one of the fastest-growing service categories for the company, with homeowners and landlords increasingly turning to specialist detection methods, including thermal imaging and acoustic surveying, to locate leaks that would previously have remained undiagnosed until visible damage appeared.

Growth built on verified customer feedback

0800 Homefix has also passed a significant milestone in its customer review record, accumulating 4,301 verified reviews with a score of 9.17 out of 10. The figure reflects the volume of work completed across London and the Southeast since the company’s founding, and serves as a measure of the consistency the business has maintained across emergency and planned work alike.

“London’s home services market has become considerably more pressured over the past year,” said a spokesperson for 0800 Homefix. “Landlords are navigating more complex compliance requirements. Homeowners are contending with ageing systems that were never going to last indefinitely. And when something goes wrong, they need a Gas Safe registered engineer who can attend the same day, without a call-out charge sitting on top of the repair bill. Expanding the team is a direct response to what the market is asking for.”

The company carries Gas Safe registration across all heating and gas work, with engineers also holding qualifications covering plumbing, drainage and specialist leak detection. All engineers are directly employed rather than contracted through third parties, a distinction the company says matters in terms of accountability and the consistency of service delivered to each customer.

Coverage across London and the South East

0800 Homefix currently serves London boroughs alongside postcode coverage extending across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Hampshire and Kent. The company handles boiler installation, repair and servicing, powerflushing, water and gas leak detection, drain unblocking and emergency plumbing across its full coverage area.

The expansion of the engineering team adds capacity at the point where demand has consistently been highest: same-day emergency attendance during periods when the company’s existing schedule is under pressure. It also positions the business ahead of what the sector expects to be a significant increase in landlord-driven compliance work as the regulatory environment around rented properties continues to tighten through 2026 and into 2027.

“We have built this business on showing up when people need us and doing the work properly,” the spokesperson added. “The review score is evidence of that. The expansion is how we make sure we can keep delivering it as demand continues to grow.”
