Paris has told hospitals to prepare for the potential of a “major military engagement” across Europe by March 2026.
The French Health Ministry has written to the health agencies telling them to prepare for the possibility of “major military engagement” in Europe by March.
French hospitals have been told they must be prepared to receive thousands of wounded and NATO soldiers should war breakout across Europe.
Tensions between Moscow and Europe have reached a critical level and the NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has warned that the Kremlin will be ready for any possible attack within five years.
French regional health chiefs was sent a letter, Le Canard Enchaîné reported that between 10,000 and 50,000 soldiers could be sent to French hospitals anytime between 10 and 180 days.
Paris’ health ministry wrote in a letter, “In the international context we are experiencing, it is necessary to anticipate the modalities of health support in high-intensity conflict situations.”
Health minister Catherine Vautrin said the letter reads, “Hospitals are constantly preparing for epidemics, for receptions… it is perfectly normal for the country to anticipate crises, the consequences of what is happening.
“This is part of the responsibility of central administrations,” she added, according to Le Figaro.
Le Figaro reported the document aims to “anticipate, prepare and respond to the health needs of the population while integrating the specific needs of defence in the health field.”
It was also reported that the government will make a push for training and will set up medical facilities close to ports and airports.
In March the French President Emmanuel Macron warned that Europe must prepare for war as Russia’s aggression “knows no borders” and Vladimir Putin will not stop with Ukraine.
In a televised address to the nation Macron said, “I want to believe the US will stay by our side.
“But we have to be ready if that isn’t the case.”
Macron added, “I’m speaking to you tonight because of the international situation and its consequences for Europe … I know you are legitimately worried faced with the historic events that are shaking the world order.
“The war in Ukraine, which has left almost one million dead and injured, continues with the same intensity. The US, our ally, has changed its position on this war, supporting Ukraine less and allowing doubt to linger on what will come next.”
He warned the world is entering an “brutal… new era” and “it would be madness to stay a spectator in this world of danger.”
