The main suspect in the Madeleine McCann disappearance admitted to a friend that he snatched the little girl as he scouted the holiday apartment.

The suspect known as Christian B told a friend on the 10th anniversary of her disappearance in a bar in Germany that he took her.

According to reports in the Sun newspaper, the suspect told a friend that he “snatched” her when she was 3-years old as they watched a TV report of her disappearance.

Reports emerged that photos of Christian B are similar to the description of a man that was seen in Praia da Luz on 3 May 2007, the same day McCann disappeared.

Christian Hoppe, of Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), said German police have not ruled out a sexual motive for the crime against McCann.

Hans Christian Wolters the German prosecutor said that she was killed not long after she disappeared.

He told The Times that McCann was killed shortly after being taken from the apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal in 2007.

Wolters told the newspaper, “My private opinion is that he relatively quickly killed the girl, possibly abused her and then killed her.

“We believe our suspect committed further crimes, especially sexual crimes, in Portugal possibly but also elsewhere like Germany.”

Wolters confirmed that he could be released from jail as he has now served two-thirds of his 21-month jail sentence for dealing drugs.

He told The Times, “The sooner we get evidence, the better for us to avoid the risk of him ever being released.”
