The Swedish flat pack furniture firm Ikea are planning to reopen 22 stores on the 18 May across the UK, according to a Daily Mail source.

Reopening the stores will pose major challenges over hygiene and there will be strict social distancing across all stores.

A source said, “The objective is to open from May 18 though there is anxiety about how it can be managed.

“There needs to be extensive cleaning throughout the day, hygiene is paramount, and we need to be 100% certain we can clean systematically throughout the day.”

An Ikea spokesman said, “We’re looking forward to welcoming customers back to our stores, as the situation allows and in line with government guidance.

“For now, all our stores across the UK and Ireland remain closed but customers can continue to shop our full range online.”
