Five Britons including a child have tested positive for coronavirus at a ski resort in eastern France, the French health minister said.

The Britons were all staying in the same chalet at the Les Contamines-Montjoie ski resort in the region of Savoie in eastern France.

Agnes Buzyn the French health minister said they were diagnosed with coronavirus after coming into contact with a person who had been in Singapore.

Buzyn said the newly-infected five Britons form “a cluster, a grouping around one original case.”

She added, “That original case was brought to our attention last night, it is a British national who had returned from Singapore where he had stayed between 20 and 23 January, and he arrived in France on 24 January for four days.”

They are now in hospital in the region and are thought not to be in a serious condition.

On mainland China the death toll now stands at 722 on Saturday, and new cases of coronavirus has soared to 34,546 people.
