Co-op to open 50 new stores creating 1,000 jobs

The Co-op are to open 50 further new stores which will create 1,000 jobs this year, as during lockdown demand for shoppers increased.

Co-op will enlarge 15 stores and 12 new Co-op franchise stores will open this year which will include Oxford Brookes University and Stirling University. More university locations are being planned for 2021.

The Grocery chain currently employs 55,000 staff and currently has 2,600 stores across the UK.

The chief executive of the Association of Convenience Stores, James Lowman said, “This commitment to investing in stores in the coming months is testament to the importance of the convenience sector.”
