The US now has nearly 86,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus which is around 16% of the worlds total 537,808 cases, the country has more than 1,290 deaths.

The US is now ahead of China which has nearly 82,000.

President Donald Trump has dismissed the high number of cases and said it is a “tribute to our testing” as US health officials are “testing tremendous numbers of people” unlike the UK.

The UK has 11,813 cases with more then 580 deaths, however, when the British government starts testing the population the figures are likely to soar, which will then reflect the true numbers of those infected.

Despite the soaring numbers across America, President Trump is telling fellow Americans they need “to get back to work” and said, “I think its going to happen pretty quickly.”

New York has 30,000 cases most are in the city with 400 deaths.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo warned, “Any scenario [in terms of infected patient numbers] that is realistic will overwhelm the capacity of the healthcare system.”

Cuomo also said his city will need 30,000 ventilators and has demanded that Trump uses wartime measures to force the production of them.

However, Trump said to Cuomo, “I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators.”

President Trump’s top doctor, Anthony Fauci and other experts warns coronavirus is ten times more lethal than seasonal flu and “many, many millions” will be infected across America.

Dr Fauci, the director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said at congressional hearing on the outbreak, the “bottom line, its going to get worse.”

“If we are complacent and don’t do really aggressive containment and mitigation, the number could go way up and be involved in many, many millions. If we contain we could flatten it.”

The scientists from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and Peking University in Beijing released a report warning that eight confirmed coronavirus cases left Wuhan, China to the US before January.

The US and Chinese scientists said they simulated the coronavirus outbreak using confirmed numbers, that 20 people in America had the virus by 29 February.

From those 20 infected people eight did visit Wuhan, China before they returned to America.
