On the Beach warns Middle East war is hitting holiday bookings

The Beach Group, a well-known online travel company, has issued a significant warning regarding a notable decline in bookings to popular Mediterranean holiday destinations.

This downturn has occurred in the wake of escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has instilled concern among travellers.

As a direct result of this slump in demand, the company has predicted a negative impact on its profits, leading to a substantial drop in its share price, down more than 10%.

This warning highlights the mounting pressure faced by the travel sector, as many holidaymakers are increasingly hesitant to fly to regions perceived to be near the conflict involving Iran.

Although The Beach Group maintains limited direct business interests in the Middle East, it has observed a marked decrease in customer demand for Mediterranean destinations since the outbreak of hostilities.

Specifically, holiday spots such as Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt have been particularly hard-hit by this trend, as travellers avoid these areas out of caution. The company expressed its uncertainty to investors, stating, “The timing of when the conflict will end and the shape of recovery in demand for these destinations are unknown.”

In light of these circumstances, The Beach Group has decided to temporarily suspend its annual profit guidance, a significant move considering that analysts had previously forecast adjusted pre-tax profits in the range of £39 million to £43 million for the current financial year.

Chief executive Shaun Morton said: “Following the onset of the conflict in the Middle East, our operational teams have been working round the clock to support directly impacted customers in resort and to enable a return home as soon as possible.”

On the Beach specialises in offering package holidays to a variety of attractive resorts, including popular locations such as Dalaman and Antalya in Turkey, Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, the picturesque Greek islands like Crete and Corfu, and multiple destinations in Dubai.

Additionally, the company has emphasised its commitment to its customers during this challenging time, stating that it has been “working around the clock” to bring home customers directly impacted by the ongoing conflict.

This commitment reflects the company’s focus on traveller safety and its dedication to ensuring that affected clients receive the necessary support and assistance.
