Video footage shows one of the towers of the bridge collapsing in a storm in northwest Italy. Italian Transport Minister Danilo Toninelli has called it “an immense tragedy”.
The Morandi bridge largely collapsed over a river at around 11:30am during torrential rainfall. Restructuring work on the bridge was last carried out in 2016.
