An easyJet flight heading from Gatwick to Menorca was intercepted by a Spanish F18 fighter jet in mid air emergency over “security” fears.

Footage taken by a passenger shows the moment an F18 fighter jet is seen flying close to the easyJet Airbus A319.

A  spokesman for the airline said, “easyJet can confirm flight EZY8303 from London Gatwick to Menorca was escorted by military aircraft while landing in Menorca and delayed disembarking due to precautionary security checks.”

He added, “The passengers have since disembarked. The safety and security of its passengers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority and we would like to thank passengers for their understanding.”

Under European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) there are strict rules when a fighter jet intercepts a commercial flight and are only allowed to do so as a “last resort.”
