BORIS JOHNSON is the favourite with Ladbrokes to become the next permanent leader of the Conservative Party.

With a possible leadership contest on the cards, the bookies make Johnson the 5/1 favourite after heavy support in the last 48 hours to succeed May, followed by Dominic Raab and Michael Gove who find themselves chalked up at 7/1 apiece.

Sajid Javid has also been a popular bet with political punters at 8/1, and the same odds are on offer for Jeremy Hunt. Esther McVey is a lively outsider at 33/1 with the firm.

Theresa May is now just 15/8, from 4/1 this morning, to be ousted from her position during before the end of this month.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Johnson has been the clear pick with punters over the last few days, but the next Tory leader market is a wide open contest at this stage.”
