The UK is set to see temperatures plummet to as low as -9C as an Arctic blast is to hit the UK.

Last night the temperature fell to -8.1C in Scotland and forecasters have said the Arctic blast will see the mercury fall tonight.

Those living in the southeast woke up to frozen fog and frost with freezing temperatures.

A Met Office spokesman said, “Temperatures dropped to -8.1C in Scotland last night which just goes to show how cold it is.

“Today will be a colder still because of this icy blast coming from the Arctic and we will likely see more snow on higher grounds throughout the week.”

The mercury in Scotland could fall to -9C and parts of England and Wales could see the temperature drop to -7C.

He added, “Tonight compared to last night is going to be colder in England.

“That will bring its own risks, so not just frost but fog and frozen fog crystallizing on windscreens.

“During tomorrow morning’s rush hour there could be visibility issues with the frozen fog, especially in southern parts of England.”
