The US President has told Venezuela’s dictator Nicolas Maduro if he wants to live and save his family he needs to leave the country immediately.
Donald Trump ordered for the airspace over the South American country to close and all flights are now flying around Venezuela.
Caracus said that Trump’s words is a “colonialist threat” against Venezuelan sovereignty which violates international law.
Trump on Saturday, in a Truth Social post said, “To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY.”
the Venezuelan government said in response that all flights “unilaterally suspended,” and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned major airlines there could be a “potentially hazardous situation” due to the a “worsening security situation and heightened military activity in or around” the country.
The US President said he spoke with Maduro during a phone call offering him safe passage out of Venezuela, the Miami Herald reported.
Trump has demanded that Maduro resigns immediately and he, his family and his aides to leave the country so it can be a democratic country.
The New York times reported a source said the phone call happened last week which was a last attempt to avoid war in the South American country.
Trump was asked if he spoke with Maduro, he said, “I don’t want to comment on it. The answer is yes.”
He added, “I wouldn’t say it went well or badly, it was a phone call.”
It has been reported that Maduro left Caracus and flew to the Brazilian border, and ADSB Exchange website monitored the flight flying to the Brazilian state of Roraima, then returned.
The Trump administration are looking into military options in Venezuela as Maduro has been playing a role in supplying drugs to the US.
Plans are being drawn up that see the US military strike military sites and bases, cocaine labs and Maduro’s palace which is based in the capital, Caracus.
Last week the US President told his armed forces that “very soon” they will start land operations on drug traffickers.
Trump has sent 10,000 troops, warships, submarines and the world’s largest warship to the Caribbean ready to strike.
Over the past months the US has been targeting drug boats in the Caribbean as President Trump ordered the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela.
