Poundland owner Pepco agreed to buy 71 Wilko stores earlier this month and ten of those store are to reopen this Saturday.

The first ten will reopen at Scunthorpe, Leigh, Southport, Stafford, Nelson, Barking, Maidenhead, Jarrow, Eccle and Leigh.

Poundland are aiming to reopen the formerly owned Wilko stores by the end of this year and new lease agreements are expected to be completed in early autumn.

Darren Kay, Poundland retail director, said, “We’re pleased to be able to re-open so quickly – not least because our ambition is to provide job opportunities for former Wilko colleagues.

“Of course, we’re not yet in a position to offer our fullest ranges in these stores, but we know customers will appreciate a shop that’s open, trading and employing colleagues to one that’s
got its shutters closed.”
