A Minister has said that the government are working to “operationalising” Rwanda flights which comes as there have been reports that RAF Voyagers could be used to deport asylum seekers.

A story which appeared in The Times claims that migrants could be flown to Rwanda on RAF Voyagers, something that Laura Trott has not denied.

Sky News asked who will fly the asylum seekers after the Treasury Minister Trott made reference to Laura Farris, Home Office Minister that the government is close to being “operationally” ready.

Trott said, “I think I’m going to say the same thing that she said yesterday to you, which is that we are working on operationalising this, but we’re not going to go into details of how we’re going to do that.

Sky News asked if the RAF will fly the asylum seekers, she said, “We will be ready for flights to take off in the spring when the legislation passes.

It was pointed out to her that we are not far away from May, she replied, “There are many definitions of spring but we’re hoping to get them up and running as quickly as possible.

The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak refused to make any comment on the report, he said, “Once on the statute books we will do everything we can do to get flights off to Rwanda.”

A government spokesperson said on Tuesday night, “We make no apology for pursuing bold solutions to stop illegal migration, dismantle the people smuggling gangs and save lives.

We have robust operational plans in place to get flights off the ground to Rwanda.
