Northern Gas and Power (NGP) has been named the north-east’s private business with the fastest-growing sales for the second year running in the prestigious Sunday Times Virgin Atlantic Fast Track 100 league table. Only two private companies from the region made the league table this year (compared to three last year).
Gateshead-headquartered NGP – the UK arm of leading global energy consultancy Global Procurement Group (GPG) – has demonstrated another exceptional year of financial growth, with latest accounts showing 48% year-on-year growth, with turnover growing to £44m for the year ended 2019.
GPG’s revenue has grown at 40% p.a. from 2017 to 2020. Revenue growth has been strong across all markets it operates in.
Despite the challenges presented by Covid-19, 2020 has seen sustained and continued growth, proving to be an extremely strong year for the group. It has delivered 2020 YTD group revenues of £52m and is projected to finish 2020 with a total of £67m, demonstrating a 56% increase over 2019 figures.
In spring 2020 the company launched a price comparison website targeting micro-businesses: BusinessEnergyQuotes.com (Energie Supermarché in France). This online, technology-enabled proposition has allowed for the expansion of its customer base to now include the micro SME sector, one which has historically been untapped by the group.
Fokhrul Islam, CEO and founder of Northern Gas and Power, said: “To be named the top north-east private business with the fastest-growing sales for the second year running is great recognition of this talented team’s amazing efforts every single day. Right across the board, from sales through to customer service, training and technology, we are constantly pushing the boundaries to provide the very best service for our customers.
“Our impressive financial growth has been matched by rapid growth in people too with our current headcount surpassing 700, as we look to grow to 1000+ next year. Q1 next year will be a hugely exciting time for us as we move into our stunning, new HQ, taking four floors of the Riga building on the Gateshead-Quays waterfront.”
Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Group, which has supported Fast Track 100 for all 24 years, said: “While we are living in extremely uncertain and challenging times, there is one thing I am certain of: entrepreneurs are the dreamers, the doers, and the innovators that have the power to have a positive impact on society. There are so many inspiring examples of this on the Fast Track 100 league table showing this is just as true, if not more so, in 2020 as it ever has been.”
Through its subsidiary ClearVUE Systems, GPG has also launched its cloud-based, energy management software and hardware solution, allowing B2B customers to monitor energy consumption and work towards a NET Carbon Zero Future.
