On Thursday NATO scrambled fighter jets over Poland as Russian bombers conducted long range missile strikes on a major city close to the Polish border.

The largest city in western Ukraine, Lviv was hit in a missile strike which damaged 18 residential buildings, a kindergarten and two schools.

The strategic Tu-95MS aircraft took off from a base in the Arctic to carry out the missile strikes.

Warsaw’s operational command said on Thursday morning, “Polish and allied aircraft have been activated, which may result in increased noise levels, especially in the south-eastern part of the country.

“Intensive long-range aviation activity of the Russian Federation is being observed, related to missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine.

“All necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Polish airspace have been launched.”

The mayor of Lviv Andrii Sadovyi said, “There have been hits in the city.

“According to preliminary information, explosive waves shattered windows in several buildings on Naukova Street in Lvivi.”
