The Health Secretary Sajid Javid was quizzed over claims that Boris Johnson held parties in Downing Street last Christmas as millions were plunged into lockdown.
Javid did not deny that parties took place and then said he was “not aware” of them and never attended them.
The Prime Minister has come under fire on Wednesday as the Mirror reported that Johnson broke social distancing rules as he attended a number of parties in the run up to the festive season with Downing Street staff.
Javid was asked by Nick Ferrari on LBC radio if he believed that Johnson and Downing Street staff had broken the rules, he replied, “I didn’t attend, I don’t know who attended these parties, but I don’t even think there were parties that I’m aware of.
“But the point is, whether it’s in Number 10 or any government department, all rules would have been followed at all times.
“I don’t think there’s anything there.”
The Health Secretary then questioned the accuracy of the report in the Mirror, he said, “Well, first of all, it is the Daily Mirror.”
Ferrari hit back, “I’m sure they have their facts straight, secretary of state.”
A source told the paper that there was “many social gathering” being held in Downing Street in 2020 whilst the country was plunged into lockdown.
“He would either turn a blind eye or on some occasions attend himself while everyone else was in lockdown.”
