The Prime Minister and his staff have been accused of breaking the legally enforced Covid rules as they attended Christmas parties in Downing Street in the run up to the festive period last year when London was in Tier 3 restrictions.

Last November Boris Johnson gave a speech at a crammed leaving do for a top aide whilst England was in it second lockdown.

A source claimed to the Mirror that there was around “40 or 50” people who were crammed “cheek by jowl” in a room inside Number 10.

“It was a Covid nightmare.”

A source told the paper that there was “many social gathering” being held in Downing Street in 2020 whilst the country was plunged into lockdown.

A source told the Mirror, “While senior civil servants were urging caution and there was one message to the public, Prime Minister gave the impression that it could be very relaxed in No 10.

“He would either turn a blind eye or on some occasions attend himself while everyone else was in lockdown.”

It was even suggested that there were “always parties” in Johnson’s flat Johnson, adding, “Carrie’s addicted to them.”

Downing Street did not deny the claims, but a spokesman said, “Covid rules have been followed at all times.”

A spokeswoman for Carrie Johnson denied she had held any parties in Downing Street when restrictions were in place, adding, “This is total nonsense.

“Mrs Johnson has followed coronavirus rules at all times and it is categorically untrue to suggest otherwise.”
