A Professor of Cellular Microbiology Dr Simon Clarke has suggested that people should wear face masks in their homes.

Dr Clarke told Sky News there is a lot of evidence that face masks are most effective in confined spaces, such as some ones home, trains, shops and public transport.

Dr Clarke said: “I think it is not unwise to instruct people to wear a mask on public transport.

“Where there is decent evidence of the effectiveness of masks is actually in people’s own homes.

“Not out on the street but in close confines.

“So, if there is evidence of the effectiveness of masks in people’s homes then there is reason to think that it would apply to public transport.

“Trains, buses, things like that.

“So, you might see it work there.”

He continued: “It will be interesting to see what effect if any it has.

“That is where I suspect we will see masks.”
