According to the latest statistics coronavirus cases have fallen by almost 30% in a week, which is the lowest since 16 December.
The number of people that tested positive through Test and Trace figures was 196,257 in the week to 27 January, which is down by 29% compared to the previous week.
The third national lockdown is now having a positive impact in driving down infections.
As a result of pressure being eased on the testing system, test results have now improved as around 82% of people who tested positive at a local site, mobile testing unit or in an in person test, all received their results within 24 hours.
This comes as the Prime Minister pledged on 3 June in the Commons that all in person tests will be provided within 24 hours.
At the time he told MPs, he will ensure that all “tests [are] turned around within 24 hours by the end of June, except for difficulties with postal tests or insuperable problems like that.”
