China locks down 108m people over fears of a new outbreak

Fears of a new coronavirus outbreak in China have placed two cities into full lockdown in the province of Jilin, North East China.

Chinese citizens in the city of Shulan which holds 700,000 residents are being told they are not allowed to leave their homes with either confirmed or suspected case of Covid-19.

Jilin the second largest city have also closed their districts with authorities raising the emergency level to “high risk.”

Jilin which is part of the Dongbei region has over 100m residents, and two emergency hospitals are treating the huge spike in Covid-19 cases.

Some 40,000 residents in Jilin and Shulan in China,  have been tested for coronavirus after health officials were alerted to the fear of a new outbreak.

Residents are only permitted to leave their homes for a two hour period, to buy essentials every other day. Whilst schools and public transport have all closed.
