Awkward: Hunt makes ‘Japanese wife’ mistake in China

Jeremy Hunt made an awkward gaffe in China today when he accidentally addressed to his Chinese wife Lucia as “Japanese”.

Britain’s new foreign secretary quickly acknowledged the “terrible” mistake and added: “My wife is Chinese and my children are half-Chinese and so we have Chinese grandparents who live in Xian and strong family connections in China.”

Hunt is on a visit to Beijing to discuss post-Brexit trade deals between the UK and China.
