On Sunday “masked thieves” robbed the world famous Louvre museum using a “chainsaw” and they stole “priceless jewellery.

The French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the three or four robbers entered the museum using a cherry picker and broke windows using a chainsaw in the Apollo Gallery.

La Parisian said that Nunez said on radio station France Inter that this was a “major robbery” at the Louvre.

Nunez said the robbery lasted for seven minute and the “individuals entered from outside with a cherry picker” to steal “priceless jewellery.”

The French Interior Minister added that “clearly a team that had been scouting” the museum and stole pieces of jewellery of “inestimable heritage” then escaped on motorbikes.

Nunez said in a statement, “The investigation has begun, and a detailed list of the stolen items is being compiled. Beyond their market value, these items have inestimable heritage and historical value.”
