A Virgin Atlantic flight bound for Heathrow airport made an emergency landing at Boston Airport in the US after a burning smell and smoke was coming out from first class.

All passengers were safely evacuated, and the flight left JFK airport at 8pm last night.

When the A330 aircraft landed bomb disposal officers entered the plane and found a phone battery charger on a seat.

A police spokesman said, “Preliminary investigation suggests it is a battery pack consistent in appearance with an external phone charger.”

Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman said, “The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top priority… We’d like to thank our customers for their patience as we work with them to provide local accommodation or to rebook alternative flights.”
