Health chiefs are to meet next week to discuss new measures which could see London having further restrictions on mixing with different households.
It has been widely reported that London is heading towards tighter restrictions if the measures do not succeed in stemming the rise.
The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has insisted that “London is at a very serious tipping point”and “I urge all Londoners to do their bit to protect our city by following the rules.”
In east London, including Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham and Tower Hamlets are seeing higher rises, whilst latest figures show that the capital now has over 3,000 fresh cases.
Professor Kevin Fenton, London director for Public Health England said on Tuesday, “We are seeing a rising tide” across London.
Adding that “we must act now and pull together to do our bit and help reverse this trend.”
