Pimlico, the UK’s largest independent home services company, has removed labour charges on emergency call outs for all NHS workers in London during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Founder and Chairman, Charlie Mullins OBE, introduced the service to help front line health workers in the capital to reduce the stress caused by home emergencies such as plumbing, heating, drains electrics or home appliance repairs.

Through Pimlico’s 24-hour Emergency Response Service, the company has already completed boiler repairs and electrical work for a number of NHS staff, predominately out-of-hours, to fit in with health workers’ shift patterns.

Pimlico’s engineers are adhering to strict government health and social distancing guidelines when visiting people’s homes.  This includes engineers calling customers so they can open the door and then self-isolate during the work.

For each emergency call out engineers are wearing disposable gloves, shoe covers and face masks.  In addition, every Pimlico van is fitted with a sink so engineers can wash their hands before and after the job.

The company is also supporting its team at its headquarters that are co-ordinating the emergency response service.  Pimlico is providing free parking and, in some cases, loan vehicles for staff to enable them to avoid using public transport to travel into central London.

Charlie Mullins OBE said, “I am keen to do what we can to help our NHS heroes by taking away some of the stress of dealing with a home emergency.  We have already helped a number of NHS staff since we introduced the free service who have been extremely grateful for all the support they are receiving from the public and businesses.

“I am also immensely proud of our emergency response team who are ensuring we can respond to call outs from NHS staff at any time of the day or night as quickly as possible.  It is heartening to see how businesses and individuals are coming together to help each other and in particular those at the front line of defeating the virus.”
