Austria has put around 2m people into lockdown who are unvaccinated to prevent a new surge in cases.
Those who are unvaccinated and from 12 years-old and older are now banned from leaving their homes since midnight on Sunday.
The Austrian government warned last month that those who are not doubled jabbed could be restricted with thei movements, after there was a record surge in cases last week.
The country has the lowest vaccination rate in Europe as only 65% have had both jabs and people will only be allowed out for exercise, food shopping and going to work.
Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said on Sunday, “It’s our job as the government of Austria to protect the people.
“Therefore we decided that starting Monday… there will be a lockdown for the unvaccinated.”
He added, “The situation is serious… We don’t take this step with a light heart but unfortunately it is necessary.”
