Londoners book holiday to beat blue Monday

Many Londoners are beating Blue Monday (21 January) by booking holidays, making today one of the busiest booking days.

While the UK suffers through what is known as the gloomiest day of the year, with the festive season over and temperatures continuing to drop, research from ATOL, the holiday financial protection scheme managed by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, has found that 700,000 Londoners are expected to beat the blues and book a holiday this month.

While the price of the getaway is still the number one factor when booking holidays, seven out of ten (69 per cent) of those surveyed by the Civil Aviation Authority admit to not always seeking financial protection for their holidays, putting themselves at risk of being out of pocket if their airline or travel company goes out of business.

Andy Cohen, Head of ATOL, said: “With the gloom surrounding Blue Monday, it’s no surprise that many Londoners are rushing to book summer travels to lift their spirits. If you are booking a package holiday today, look beyond the price and ensure your peace of mind by checking that the holiday is financially protected.”
