A Ukrainian guard defending the small island base of Snake Island was ordered by a Russian warship to surrender, he told the Russian to “go f*** yourself.”

In a radio exchange shared on social media, a Russian officer said, “This is a military warship. This is a Russian military warship.

“I suggest you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and needless casualties. Otherwise, you will be bombed.”

The Ukrainian soldier who was manning the radio turned to his colleague and said, “This is it. Should I tell him to go f*** himself?”

He replied, “Just in case.”

The soldier turned up the volume on the dial and told the “Russian warship, go f*** yourself.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that all 13 Ukrainian defenders were killed following a Russian bombing on Snake Island on Thursday.

“All border guards died heroically but did not give up. They will be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously,” Zelensky said.

A statement from the Russian defence ministry claims that “In the area of the Zmeiny (Snake) Island, 82 Ukrainian servicemen laid down their arms and voluntarily surrendered to a unit of the Russian Armed Forces.

“At present, they are being asked to sign a refusal to take part in hostilities.

“In the near future they will be returned to their families.”
