Government Ministers at the very top are concerned over the the threat of flatulence could transmit Covid.
Ministers are taking this seriously, as one told The Telegraph they have seen “credible looking stuff on it” including evidence of a “genomical linked tracing connection between individuals from a [toilet] cubicle in Australia.”
Experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said the risk is probably “negligible,” but said a ‘flush and rush’ strategy is ‘probably the best strategy in any public restroom at any time, pandemic or not’.
The science is not definitive and testing has found Covid can be present in fecal matter which has also been detected in sewage, as infected people do “shed” the virus when they go to the toilet.
The Department for Health has said that wastewater testing “plays an important role in detection of mutations of the virus.”
