Covid-19: Hospital staff member who works in high dependency unit tests positive

A health professional who works at University Hospital Southampton has tested positive for coronavirus.

The staff member who works in the surgical high dependency unit, worked a night shift on Friday, the unit is now temporarily closed and the worker is now in isolation at home.

Staff and patients who came into close contact have been informed and isolated.

On Monday, Public Health Wales have confirmed two further cases of coronavirus in Wales, bringing the total to six, and across the UK the total number stands at 280, up 74 since Saturday.

On Sunday, England’s chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty has confirmed a man in his 60s with underlying health conditions has died of coronavirus.

He was being treated at North Manchester General Hospital when he died, he had also recently returned back from a trip in Italy.
