Brussels closes all bars and cafes for a month

Brussels government has announced that due to a soaring rise in coronavirus infections, all bars and cafes in the capital will be forced to close from Thursday.

Brussels has overtaken Paris with coronavirus infections per inhabitant, and is second to Madrid among the EU27.

Health authorities in Belgium said that they have had 502 coronavirus cases per 100,000 population over the past two weeks.

In a news conference Rudi Vervoort, premier of the Brussels region, said that all bars and cafes are ordered to close from Thursday for one month.

Vervoort said it does not matter the bars and cafes only sell tea or coffee.
