ASOS warns over Covid uncertainty despite sales boost

Online behemoth ASOS has reported that sales rose 26 per cent to £1.24 billion in the four months to the end of June.

The company warned, however, that trading in recent weeks had been muted as Covid-19 uncertainty and inclement weather, particularly in the UK, had an impact on market demand.

Asos, which reported that active customers over the period increased by 1.2 million to 26.1 million, said it expected full-year profits to be in line with expectations.

Nick Beighton, its chief executive, said: “Although mindful of the continued impacts of the pandemic on our customers in the short term, we believe that the structure of the global ecommerce fashion market has changed for ever, which will drive an increase in online fashion sales over the long term.”
