World Health Organisation chief (WHO) Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference from Geneva, “We have not seen an urgent enough escalation in testing.”
He urges countries to “test, test, test.”
People across the UK are being refused the coronavirus test despite the World Health Organization (WHO) advising the UK health officials to do so.
Europe now has more cases than China does now and when the epidemic started there.
Dr Tedros said he is “deeply concerned” that countries with good healthcare systems are struggling to cope.
He said that further testing for coronavirus must be done, as “you cannot fight a fire while blindfolded.”
The WHO are working with companies to increase the availability for test for those that need it.
Dr Ghebreyesus said, “You can’t fight a virus if you don’t know where it is.
“Find, isolate, test and treat every case to break the chains of Covid transmission. Every case we find and treat limits the expansion of the disease.
“Do not just let this fire burn,’ he said. ‘Any country that looks at the experience of other countries with large epidemics and thinks ‘that won’t happen to us’ is making a deadly mistake.”
