UK records more than 12,700 infections since Friday

The government has reported on Sunday that there has been a total of 3,899 new confirmed coronavirus cases and 18 Covid related deaths.

This is down from Saturday’s figures of 4,422 and all 18 deaths were in England, compared to 27 on Saturday, this totals 12,743 coronavirus infections from Friday to Sunday.

Coronavirus figures are lower on weekends due to reporting delays, so these figures could rise over the coming days.

England recorded a total 3,279 infections, whilst Scotland had 245, Wales 199 and Northern Ireland with 176.

On Monday the government’s chief scientific advisor Sir Patrick Vallance and Professor Chris Whitty the chief medical officer are expected to make an announcement in a televised briefing.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson could be making an announcement on Tuesday it has been reported.
