The UK see snow over the next two weeks, with more in the coming days and an Arctic blast will see the mercury to below zero this week, which will feel “more like -4C or -5C.”

The Met Office has warned temperatures across the UK will dip below freezing again this week after Shap in Cumbria, north-west England, recorded the lowest temperature of the season so far with -8.7 degrees.

Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon said: “The previous low was minus 6.4C which was recorded in Shap in Cumbria on the 28th.

“Over last night we recorded minus 8.7C, also in Shap. There is a bit of a warming trend through the day today (Monday).

“The whole of the UK will turn milder. The places that will hold on to the cold air the longest will be in the south-east of the UK.

“The low temperatures will return on Wednesday and Thursday night. However, I don’t think it will be quite as low as we have seen before.

“It will still be below zero, but more like -4C or -5C.

This weekend it has been predicted that around 4cm os now is likely to fall in the Midlands, north east and and west of England.

Snow will also be a threat for the following week with up to 16cm to fall in the north west and Scotland.

AccuWeather meteorologist Joe Curtis warned a “surge of cold air” will arrive over the coming days.

Curtis told Express.co.uk, “Over the next several weeks, temperatures across the UK will trend slightly below average for early December.

“The next surge of cold air will arrive by December 1st as the core of the jet stream dips southward, towards France and Spain.

“Temperatures across the UK will be several degrees below average for early December, with the coldest air over Scotland.

“In the long range, temperatures for the second week of December will also be below average.

“However, we are not seeing any signs of extreme cold at this time.

“The coldest air over the next several weeks will be in the northern UK.

“Regarding snowfall, the best chance for any accumulating snow will be to the north, over Scotland.”
