Majority of UK employers remain confident about retaining staff

According to the latest study from the UK’s leading independent job board, CV-Library, the majority (88.9%) of UK employers still feel confident about retaining staff over the next six months; despite the government’s Job Retention Scheme coming to an end in October.

The job board surveyed over 200 UK companies in an effort to understand how businesses are feeling about the UK job market during this unprecedented time; with 85.4% admitting that they feel confident about their hiring efforts right now.

However, when comparing the results to findings from a similar survey carried out by the job board in May 2019, the data shows that employers do feel less confident than they did last year. In fact, a higher 91.8% of employers felt confident about their ability to retain staff in 2019.

Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library said, “It’s perfectly understandable that organisations feel less confident about retaining staff than they did a year ago. The coronavirus pandemic has put a spanner in the works for the entire UK economy, meaning very few companies will come out the other side unscathed.

“That said, it’s heartening to see that there hasn’t been a dramatic drop and business owners still have faith in the UK jobs market and their ability to retain staff. Hopefully, this will be comforting news for job seekers across the country, especially following the doom and gloom of a potential second spike”

The study also finds that 65.8% of employers think the job market will improve over the next 12 months. Interestingly, a further two-thirds (66.9%) of respondents said they felt more confident because of the large influx of candidates entering the job market.

Biggins added, “It’s becoming clear that the road to recovery after coronavirus will be difficult. But, it’s vital that companies across the UK continue to develop their hiring strategies in order to stay on track.

“As a business owner or recruiter, this means streamlining your recruitment process and working with industry experts that can get your vacancies in front of the best candidates, for the best price. By doing so, you can continue to grow your business, without wasting money.”
