The London Ambulance Service (LAS) are preparing for 10,000 emergency calls each day, and advanced plans are in place to summon extra staff.

LAS are expecting a “triple whammy” of coronavirus, flu and the winter months, and student paramedics will be bought in to answer 999 calls.

During the first wave LAS received more than 11,000 calls a day during the peak, and neighbouring ambulance services could be drafted in to help.

Ambulance staff have been told to try and treat patients on the scene and try not to take them to A&E.
