Market researcher Kantar has said that in the four weeks to 26 January grocery price inflation was 3.3% and UK grocery sales was up by 4.3%.

Pressure on British consumers eased in January as supermarket promotions helped to lower grocery inflation data shows.

Kantar said that promotions from supermarkets increased year-on-year by £274 million which accounted for 27.2% of sales, Reuters reports.

However, supermarkets have warned that the Chancellor announced during her Autumn Budget in October 2024 a hike in the minimum wage and employer’s national insurance contributions which will push up prices.
