Some people, eh? George Soros has only gone and added a cool $5.5.bn to his multi-billion-dollar fortune, thanks to stellar performance at his hedge fund Quantum Endowment Fund.

Soros was already the world’s 19th richest person as of September 2013, when he had a fortune of $20bn, according to Forbes’ billionaires index.

The $28.6bn-fund Quantum has once again become the world’s highest-earning hedge fund of all time, according to a survey by LCH Investments, reported by the FT.

Quantum has reported its best returns since 2009. It has generated nearly $40bn since being founded in 1972, LCH Investments found.

Quantum has pipped Bridgewater Pure Alpha to the number-one spot, although the two funds have alternated between ranking one and two over the last few years.
