FTSE 100 hits new highs

9th May 24 4:33 pm

The FTSE 100 has hit a record high on Thursday which comes after the Bank of England (BoE) held interest rates.

The Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee vote 7-2 to hold rates at 5.25% which is a 16-year high, and two members voted for a 0.25 percentage point cut.

The FTSE 100 rose 0.4% to 8,390.76 points which is a new high.

“It doesn’t really matter if it’s going to be June or August for the BOE, as long as we know that the worst that the BOE will do is to keep interest rate at current level and not hike,” said Julien Lafargue, chief market strategist at Barclays Private Bank.
