Police have fined a man who drove 240 miles to “buy bread for just £1 cheaper” during the UK coronavirus lockdown.

The Covid Idiot made a 240-mile round trip from Nottingham to London with two children in the back of the car and was caught driving at 110 mph.

Leicestershire Police clocked the man driving recklessly at a speed of 110mph on Sunday night on the M1 Northbound near junction 22.

Police handed the man two fixed penalty notices, and reported him to court for speeding, completely ignoring the governments advice.

Leicestershire Roads Policing Unit tweeted, “Just stopped a car doing 110mph on the M1 north.

“The purpose of the journey from Nottingham? To buy bread in London because it was £1 cheaper.

“He also had his two young children in the car!

“Reported to court #thatcouldcostsomedough.”

People took to Twitter to ridicule him. One person wrote, “His half-baked plan clearly went a rye, but what a crumby excuse!

“Why did he not have enough dough to buy it in Nottingham?

“I guess the cost of bread is now the yeast of his problems.

“This virus effects the poor and the upper crust alike.

“We all knead to stay indoors.”

Another wrote: “You should have told him it’s even cheaper to bake his own.”
