A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry has suggested the US military may have bought the deadly coronavirus to Wuhan, China which was the epicentre of the outbreak.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian has accused the US that they lack transparency.
He wrote on Twitter, “When did patient zero begin in US? How many people are infected? What are the names of the hospitals?
“It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data! US owe us an explanation!”
In a war of words China has been accused by the US of being too slow to react to the outbreak.
On Wednesday, the US National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien said, the speed of China’s reaction to coronavirus had probably cost the world two months.
On Thursday, Zhao’s fellow Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang criticised the US for “immoral and irresponsible” comments in blaming Beijing’s response to coronavirus.
Geng told a daily news briefing in Beijing, such remarks by US officials would not help US epidemic efforts.
Geng said, “We wish that a few officials in the U.S. would at this time concentrate their energy on responding to the virus and promoting cooperation, and not on shifting the blame to China.”
Critics are saying President Trump has played down coronavirus to the public and the federal government was slow to roll out tests.
On Wednesday, Trump’s national security advisor O’Brien said during a think-tank appearance, “Unfortunately, rather than using best practices, this outbreak in Wuhan was covered up.
“It probably cost the world community two months to respond,’ during which ‘we could have dramatically curtailed what happened both in China and what’s now happening across the world.”
O’Brian added, “We have done a good job responding to it but … the way that this started out in China, and the way it was handled from the outset, was not right.”
Chinese scientists said the global outbreak of coronavirus started in a science laboratory in Wuhan yards away from a wet market.
They have sensationally spoke out and said the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan was due to the scientists researching bat diseases and could be responsible.
Biologists Botao Xiao and Lei Xiao published a pre-print entitled “The possible origins of 2019-nCoV coronavirus.”
A Taiwanese scientist has claimed Chinese microbiologists probably created coronavirus in Wuhan, China.
Professor Fang said China’s track record with safety standards and laboratory management has been questioned in the past.
