Douglas Carswell, UKIP’s only MP, has called on party leader Nigel Farage to quit.
In an interview with BBC Essex Carswell said: “Sometimes a start-up needs to change gear and to change its management if it’s to go the next level.
“The Oldham by-election, to me, said very clearly that we need a fresh face.”
The Clacton MP panned Farage for blaming UKIP’s failure at the byelection
The Carswell also panned Farage for suggesting “fake postal votes” for Ukip’s failure at the the Oldham byelection.
“Let me put it another way: I don’t want to wake up the morning after the European referendum and hear people saying ‘it was the postal votes’.”
Farage’s response? He told Carswell to either “put up or shut up”.
