Will Royal Mail strike over Christmas?

If postal workers rule out the threat of a Christmas strike Royal Mail has pledged to enter into discussions with the Communication Workers Union (CWU).

Earlier this month CWU members overwhelmingly voted in favour to strike as they have accused Royal Mail bosses of not honoring last years agreement over pay and working conditions.

Royal Mail’s director Ricky McAulay said, “If the CWU agrees to rule out industrial action for the remainder of the calendar year – a critical time for our customers, we will commit to holding open discussions with no preconditions aimed at resolving the dispute.”

If the strike were to go ahead around 110,000 union members could strike at Christmas.
