Virgin Media and O2 may be set to merge

Broadband giant Virgin Media and mobile operator O2 could be set to merge which would create the UKs largest entertainment and telecoms companies, and a rival to BT.

O2 has around 34m users and provides networks for Sky Mobile, Giffgaff and Tesco Mobile is the UKs biggest phone company.

Virgin Media has around six million customers for their cable TV and broadband with three million mobile users.

Should the merger happen this would put pressure on BT who owns the second biggest mobile network, EE.
