The worst places for drug abuse in the UK

Three of the London boroughs are among the ten worst places for drug abuse in the UK.

The boroughs were Islington, Camden and Tower Hamlets and were found to have some of the biggest drug problems. This was based on people dying or being taken to hospital.

A huge 1,513 drug-related crimes were committed in the Tower Hamlets area between 2015 and 2016.

Islington was quite high on the list coming in at fourth whilst Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Liverpool were the top three with the worst problems with drug abuse.

Camden came in at fifth with Tower Hamlets sitting at eighth.

A similar study of the worst places for alcohol problems in the UK showed that no London boroughs were affected.

Salford, in Greater Manchester faced the biggest number of deaths by alcohol.

In Manchester alone, 234 people died in 2014 due to alcoholism. A sum of 6,000 people in the city were being prescribed drugs to help with alcohol dependency in 2015-16.
