According to the latest job market data from CV-Library, the UK’s leading independent job board, average salaries for new roles increased by 7.1% in London last month, when comparing year-on-year data.

The study, which explores job market data from February 2020 and compares this with figures from January 2020 and the same period in 2019, also reveals that Londoners are doubling-down on their job hunt, with applications rising by 15% year-on-year.

This marks the first time that applications have increased in February since 2016, suggesting that candidates are growing in confidence.

Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library said, “Even though Brexit is now behind us, it’s clear that many professionals in London are happily dusting off their CVs and searching for new jobs. What’s more, the fact that pay has risen suggests that businesses are ready to fully invest in their hiring efforts.

“However, the onset of coronavirus could slow this growth down in the coming months and we may even see a dip in wages. But, if you’re looking for a new job and the salary falls short of your expectations, there are plenty of other areas to negotiate on. From flexible working, to holiday allowance, try to maximise the other benefits you can get from a job before settling for less!”

Alongside this, London’s job market shows no sign of slowing just yet, with job numbers rising by 3.7% year-on-year across the city.

Biggins continues: “It’s great to see the job market performing better than it was a year ago and there are plenty of job opportunities out there for anyone who’s looking for a change. However, the rise in applications isn’t always good news for job hunters.

“In fact, you’ll likely face stiff competition when it comes to applying for a new role, so it’s important that you search for jobs that complement your skillset, experience and interests. If you format your CV correctly, brush up on your interview techniques and research your prospective employer properly, you’ll be able to secure those top jobs in no time.”
